WHERE ARE WE HEADED WITH THESE TOUTS : Judge in Fayose’s case steps down citing threat to life ... PremiumTimes

Ayo Fayose is Ekiti state governor.
The judge handling the case filed against the Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has withdrawn from the suit.
The case, filed before Mr. Fayose was sworn-in as governor, is to challenge his eligibility for the governorship election.
PREMIUM TIMES learnt that Justice Olusegun Ogunyemi, who was handling the case, has withdrawn from it citing threats to his life.
Mr. Ogunyemi is said to have handed over the case file to the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Ayodeji Daramola.
The judge, who had earlier returned the case file to Mr. Daramola, was reassigned the case last week.
An Ekiti-based pro-democracy group, the E-11, had gone to the court to challenge Mr. Fayose’s eligibility to contest the gubernatorial election which he won against the then incumbent, Kayode Fayemi, of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Mr. Fayose is a member of Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The PDP had petitioned the chief judge of the state, arguing that Mr. Ogunyemi may show bias in the case.
In the petition signed by the state Chairman of the party, Idowu Faleye, and addressed to Mr. Daramola, the PDP noted that going by the manner the case was previously handled by Mr. Ogunyemi, the governor and the PDP, who are defendants in the case, would not get justice.
“We are surprised; however, to be informed that the same judge, Justice Ogunyemi had resumed sitting over the same case he had voluntarily withdrawn from,” the PDP said.
“When we probed why the same judge, whose action caused unmitigated crisis in the state prior to the swearing in of the new governor of the state and a party in the case, we were informed that the National Judicial Commission, NJC, directed him to resume sitting over the case. However, our investigation at the NJC proved to the contrary.
Our source at the NJC asked a rhetorical question of when the NJC has become the assigning judge of cases pending before a state high court.”
Also, the counsel to Mr. Fayose, Ahmed Raji, has filed a motion seeking transfer of the case from Mr. Ogunyemi.
PREMIUM TIMES learnt that following Mr. Ogunyemi’s withdrawal, judges in Ekiti are reluctant to take over the case.
The Ekiti State Government had on September 25 ordered the immediate closure of all state courts after thugs allegedly backing the then governor-elect, Mr. Fayose, descended on a court, attacking a judge and other staff.
The assailants attacked Justice John Adeyeye, beat him up and ripped his clothes for allegedly being rude to Mr. Fayose. The pandemonium that ensued scuttled the sitting of the Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal billed for that day at the High court, Ado-Ekiti, as judicial workers abandoned their duty post and ran for safety, witnesses and the state judiciary authority had said.
That attack was the second that the week after thugs earlier stormed another court in Ado Ekiti and attacked Mr. Ogunyemi.
Mr. Daramola subsequent ordered all state courts to remain closed until adequate security measures were in place, a statement signed by the Chief Registrar, Obafemi Fasanmi, had indicated.
The registrar said police officers who were at the court did nothing to stop the second attack.

A DECLARATION SO HARD TO MAKE IN A FAST DIMINISHING TERRITORY ... WHAT A SHAME : It’s unfair to stop Jonathan because of insecurity -Alkali ... PunchNews

Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Prof. Rufai Alkali, has said it will be unfair to deny President Goodluck Jonathan the right to seek re-election on account of the insecurity in the north east.
Alkali said this in an interview with newsmen, in Abuja, on Sunday.
He spoke at an event to mark the president’s planned official declaration in Abuja, on Tuesday.
He was reacting to claims in some quarters that the President was insensitive to the plight of Nigerians who were under siege by the Boko Haram sect, in the North East.
According to him, the President feels the pains of all Nigerians and was doing everything within his powers to deal with the situation.
He, however, said it was uncharitable for anyone to use the security situation to deny the President the right to seek re-election in 2015.
The presidential adviser said terrorism was not restricted to Nigeria alone because almost all continents of the world were dealing with it in one form or another.
He pointed out that opposition politicians criticizing the president over his planned declaration were being unfair, because most of them have not only declared, but have purchased forms to contest.
Alkali said “President took his time to say he will declare well after many others have done so.
“I feel that if others who despite the security challenges did not dissuade them from showing interest to contest then, I think there is no valid reason that will stop a  sitting President from contesting.
“It does not make sense for you to say Mr. President should not declare or should not contest because there is crisis or security challenges but you, immediately INEC releases the time-table even before the ink dries up you rush to your party secretariat to purchase the form, organise a huge rally and dance around. I think what is good for the goose is good for the gander.
President Jonathan is scheduled to make public his desire to seek a second term in office, on Tuesday.

The Boko Haram sect on Sunday released a new video which showed the insurgents parading an unnamed captured own on an armoured tank.
The Boko Haram video, obtained by the AFP, also showed the group’s leader Abubakar Shekau preaching to residents of the captured town.
It was not possible to tell whether the footage was staged for propaganda purposes, especially scenes of residents cheering Islamist fighters.
The message appeared to be aimed at reinforcing Shekau’s claim that he has created a caliphate within Nigeria.
In the 44-minute video, AFP reports that Boko Haram voices support for other so-called caliphates, including the one proclaimed in Iraq and Syria by the Islamic State (IS) group.
Shekau, who is pictured in closeup shots with rare clarity, again dismisses government claims about ceasefire talks.
The video, which was delivered through the same channels as past messages, shows armed men lined along a well-paved road, with three pick-up trucks bristling with heavy weapons also visible.
Black, crested flags associated with the Islamist group are also shown.
Later, an armoured vehicle rolls down the road lined with both fighters and individuals who appear to be residents of the town.
Boko Haram has released a series of videos showing similar military hardware, equipment it says was stolen from the Nigerian military. Such claims have been impossible to verify.
No women or girls are seen on the street or anywhere else in the footage.
Most of the message is taken up by a sermon from Shekau, delivered indoors but apparently played on a speaker to locals assembled outside.
“We have indeed established an Islamic caliphate,” he said, restating a claim he first made in August.
The images of the sermon include unusually clear closeups of the Nigerian militant leader.
Shekau has previously expressed solidarity with other jihadist groups and leaders.
In the latest video, he seemed to associate territory under his control with a wider, global caliphate, but did not submit to the authority of any other jihadi leader.
“To everyone living in Islamic Caliphate, we convey our greetings,” he said, specifically mentioning “brethren” in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Shishan (an Islamist term for Chechnya), Yemen, Somalia and “the Caliphate in Iraq and Syria.”
A graphic shown later includes a picture the IS group’s leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as well as a portion of the message his group issued on July 1 proclaiming a caliphate in Iraq and Syria.
Iraq on Sunday was investigating whether Baghdadi was killed in air strikes by US-led coalition warplanes.
Nigeria maintains it is still negotiating with Boko Haram envoys in neighbouring Chad and that a disputed October 17 ceasefire declaration remains viable.
Violence has however continued and the Islamists are believed to control more than two dozen towns and villages in the northeast.
“There is no truce between me and Nigerian tyrants,” Shekau said, dismissing the credibility of Danladi Amhadu, the purported rebel negotiator.”

“This person Danladi… if he thinks he can, let him show his face. By Allah, we will kill him,” the Islamist leader said.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two teenage boys, Gideon Harrison and Ifeanyi Ezeorji, for allegedly having sex with each other in the Ikotun area of Lagos.
PUNCH Metro learnt that while Harrison is 19 years old, Ezeorji is just 14. Our correspondent gathered that the two boys were arrested on October 23 by the Ikotun Police Division. According to the police, Harrison and Ezeorji had sex with each other through the anus, an act known as sodomy.
Our correspondent also gathered that while Ezeorji was a Senior Secondary School pupil 1 in Igando High School, Ikotun Road, Harrison had finished secondary school education.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the complainant, one Toheeb Adekunle, who stays on Muka Street, Ijegun Road and works inside the Ikotun Motor Park, caught the two boys in the act, and reported the matter to the police. Adekunle was said to have told the police that Harrison had the habit of sleeping with boys in the area.
When our correspondent visited the area on Friday, a police source said the two boys had been taken to the State Criminal Investigations Department, Yaba, adding that they would be charged to court soon.
At Ezeorji’s family apartment on Oladunjoye Street, Ikotun, his mother, Mrs. Chinyere Ezeorji, told PUNCH Metro that her son was a responsible boy who would never indulge in such an act. She added that he is still a virgin.
She said, “My son is just 14 years old. He does not do such things. He is not even mature yet. He takes his bath outside, some times in the presence of his sisters to tell you that he is young. His father had died in September this year, and we have yet to bury him. The family is still grieving him. All I know is that there is no truth in the allegation.
“I don’t know about the other man. I have not even met him. On the day of the alleged incident, my son had strolled to the motor park, and there was a street fight. My son then told me later on that he was simply watching the fight, and he had been arrested by the police.”
When our correspondent visited Adekunle’s house address on Ijegun Road, his neighbours said he was no longer living in the place as he had moved to an unknown place in Ikotun. All efforts to also locate Harrison’s house or his family for comment were unsuccessful as of the time of this report.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, while confirming the arrest of the boys, said the suspects had also been charged to court.
He said, “Yes, they were arrested by the Ikotun Police Division, and they have been charged to court. In law, this offence is called sodomy, and it carries with it about seven to 14 years imprisonment if found guilty, going by an Act of the National Assembly.

“You know, it is even against culture and religion. The Christian, Islamic and even the traditional religions condemn this in its entirety. So, the case has been taken to court.”

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE WHEN WE ARE TALKING ABOUT MISAPPLIED FUNDS? : Our private jet cost N7bn, not N9bn –Amaechi ... PunchNews

Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi
Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, on Saturday said contrary to reports, the state government’s private jet costs $45m (N7.1bn) and not $57 (N9bn).
The governor said this through his Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, in an interview with our correspondent in Port Harcourt.
Amaechi described the allegations that he inflated the cost of the jet by $10m as unfounded and a figment of the imagination of those spreading such false information.
According to him, the allegations were targeted at distracting the state government from its responsibility of developing the state.
“The state government has never announced that the aircraft was purchased for $57m. That statement did not come from us. The aircraft was bought for US$45m. We see all these as a distraction,” Amaechi said.
Meanwhile, two aides to the Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Mr. Chikodi Dike, were on Saturday barred by a team of policemen from entering the council secretariat.
The two aides were the Chief of Staff, Rivers State Government House, Mr. Tony Okocha and the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Emmanuel Chinda.
The incident, which occurred around 2.30pm, came barely 24 hours after a team of policemen had sealed off the council secretariat allegedly on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu.
Workers of the council and visitors on the premises were also ordered out of the secretariat by the policemen on Friday before sealing off the place.
Speaking with newsmen outside the premises of the council, Okocha described the development as a coup against the people of Obio/Akpor and the people of the state in general.
Dike had earlier gone to the secretariat for the monthly environmental sanitation, but was warned by the fierce-looking policemen that had mounted guard at the gate of the council secretariat for two days to stay away.
Okocha, who was peeved by the development, went to the council secretariat in company with Dike and Chinda.
However, the policemen stood their ground when the Chief of Staff and other government officials arrived the secretariat, saying they were acting on the order of the Divisional Police Officer of Rumuokoro Police Station.
Okocha said, “You can see that the whole place is blocked with police vehicles and policemen. This morning, the police PPRO had said no such thing existed. That is why I came to see things for myself.
“I was trying to find out the man who gave the instruction: the policeman I saw said it was the DPO who gave the instruction and he said the DPO is not around. I said okay; give me the name of the next person around.
“What I suspect is a coup in a democratic setting; a coup against Obio/Akpor local government and a coup against Rivers State. We know their plan is to provoke the people of Rivers so that there would be some kind of mayhem for them to declare a state of emergency.”
He told newsmen that the state police boss had told him that the order to seal off the council secretariat was from the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar.
He described the action of the police as anti-government, saying, “I don’t know whose script they are really acting out. I am shocked.”
The PPRO, Mr. Ben Ugwuegbulam, had earlier said policemen were sent to the secretariat following a tip-off that there was a plot to attack the council secretariat.

A Nigerian military helicopter on surveillance mission has crashed in Damare, a suburb of Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa state.
A resident, Jamilu Inuwa, said he saw the chopper go down.
“The helicopter crashed in Damare,” he said. “I don’t know if it is a military plane or not.” he said.
A Yola-based journalist however told PREMIUM TIMES he had it on good authority that the helicopter was on surveillance mission and was carrying arms and ammunition.
He said he was further told that there were some foreigners aboard.
“Immediately after the crash, soldiers were drafted to the scene to cordon off the scene,” the journalist told PREMIUM TIMES.
Mr. Inuwa also said the scene of the crash is not far from the temporary camp of the National Youth Service Corps which is serving as a base for the internally displaced persons [IDPs] in the state.
The spokesperson of the Defence headquarters, Chris Olukolade, a Major General, could not be reached for comments just as the  spokesperson of the Nigerian Air Force, Dele Alonge. They did not answer or return calls
News of the helicopter crash came about two months after a Nigerian Air Force fighter jet, went missing during routine operations in the northern part of Adamawa State.
The Nigerian Air Force aircraft went missing on September 12.
The aircraft, an Alpha Jet (NAF 466) was involved in the counter insurgency operation against the extremist Boko Haram sect.
The whereabouts of the missing Alpha Jet had become a subject of conjectures following the inability of the Nigeria Air Force to tell Nigerians what actually happened to the fighter jet.
Boko Haram insurgents later claimed shooting the aircraft down in a video in which they appeared to slaughter one of the pilots of the missing Alpha Jet.
But last week, local fishermen claimed they found wreckages of the jet which disappeared on September 12, in the River Benue.
The fishermen said they found the aircraft at Kwa Ine Village, Demsa Local Government, Adamawa State about 50 kilometers away from Yola, the state capital.

“I want to challenge every Kenyan to go to the cemetery and disappoint the graveyard. Die like the Apostle Paul who said I have finished my course, I have kept the faith and I have been poured out like a drink offering. There is nothing left. I am ready to die.

That’s how I wanna die because there is nothing else for me left to die,” he told the show’s host, Jeff Koinange. “When you die, die like I am planning to die. Empty. It’s finished,” He added in the show.

He was in Kenya in his visit to Africa in his Tour of Africa where he was visiting 9 countries to speak about leadership and change.
While in Kenya, Dr Munroe pointed out that Kenya’s education system needed adjustment. Rose from an F student to own a jet Dr Munroe who was born in the Bahama as the sixth born in a family of 11 lived in a wooden house with four big rocks holding up the house above the ground rose from such a poor background to own a private jet.

CASTING SPELLS FOR JONATHAN'S 2015 AMBITION : 2015: Ex-Presidents, Others To Meet Obasanjo, Babangida Over Jonathan.... TheNation

$

The political intrigues ahead of 2015 general elections continue as the Presidency, in what could be described as a last minute ditch effort to woo aggrieved chieftains of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has resolved to send a delegation of former Heads of State and Presidents, amongst others, to meet with ex-Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, over the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan.
A very reliable source told The Nation that the move, which also enjoys the backing of the national leadership of the ruling party, was a fall-out of a recent meeting of some elder statesmen with the President few hours after the last Council of State meeting in Abuja.
“The move, an attempt to garner vital support for Jonathan, involves begging and seeking the forgiveness of former Presidents Obasanjo and Babangida for President Jonathan.
The idea was mooted after some eminent members of the Council of State met and discussed with the President over recent actions and inactions of some Council members ahead of the 2015 general elections.
Following observations that some former leaders, including Obasanjo and Babangida have, in recent times kept their distance from the presidency, it was resolved that a delegation be sent to them to curry their support for the current administration,” our source said.
The Nation however, learnt that President Jonathan has approved the setting up of a committee of five, comprising three former leaders; Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Alhaji Shehu Shagari and Chief Ernest Shonekan; the Senate President, David Mark and the national chairman of the ruling party, Adamu Muazu, to reach out to the two statesmen on his behalf.
While Obasanjo was at the last Council of State meeting, Babangida, who returned to the country a few days before the meeting, after months of recuperating abroad, was absent.
“Though Obasanjo attended the last meeting, it was obvious to all those present that his presence was out of mere routine. He is known to be very critical of the Jonathan administration. For Babangida, his silence and inaction over matters relating to the current administration is even more worrisome to the presidency.”
While the committee is expected to talk Obasanjo into reducing his criticism of Jonathan’s government in the months leading to the next presidential election, it is being hoped that it will succeed in getting Babangida to throw his weight behind the president’s re-election bid.
“It is not good for Jonathan’s 2015 ambition that someone of Obasanjo’s calibre is opposed to him. Also, Babangida is not known to have endorsed or support Jonathan’s re-election bid up till now. These are the task being given to the committee in the interest of the country,” our source added.
The Nation also learnt that the President was told that some credible reports at the disposal of Council members does not favour his re-election bid largely because of the frosty relationship between him and some prominent party chieftains across the country.
Also, findings by our correspondent revealed that the fear of the likes of Obasanjo, Babangida and Danjuma joining forces with the Bola Tinubu, Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC), to confront the ruling PDP in the 2015 presidential election, is top amongst the reasons why the presidency agreed that the delegation should be sent out to make amends.
The Nation.

President Goodluck Jonathan has condemned Monday’s “dastardly murder’’ of students of Government Senior Science Secondary School, Potiskum, Yobe, by suspected suicide bomber.

In a statement issued by Dr Reuben Abati, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, quoted Jonathan as promising to bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice “no matter how long it takes.
He said “President Goodluck Jonathan sends his heartfelt commiserations to the government and people of Yobe on the death of many students in a bomb attack on Potiskum earlier today.
“Jonathan also conveys his deepest sympathies to all parents who lost their beloved children in the heinous attack on Government Science Secondary School, Potiskum, which appears to have been carried out by a suicide bomber.
“The President condemns the dastardly murder of the students on their school’s assembly ground as they prepared to begin another week of study in pursuit of a better life for themselves and their families.
“The President assures the grieving parents and people of Yobe that no matter how long it takes, the Federal Government will ensure that all those responsible for the senseless murder of so many promising youngsters

Gov. Ibrahim Geidam
Scores of students were killed yesterday by a suicide bomber in Yobe state, and the state governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, who hardly makes public statements released one in which he asked President Goodluck Jonathan to explain to the people why insurgents were having a field day in the state despite the imposition of emergency rule.
Gaidam said in a statement issued by his special adviser on press affairs and information, Abdullahi Bego, that beyond condemnation of the actions of the terrorists, the FG must take action.
The statement said: “This morning, our state woke up to a very sad and heart-breaking news of a bomb attack on our young students at Government Comprehensive School, Potiskum, in which no fewer than 35 students were killed and many more injured.
“The thoughts of His Excellency, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam and his prayers are with the parents, teachers and families of the innocent victims of this callous and reprehensible attack.
“The governor is heartbroken and words cannot adequately convey the extent of his remorse and sadness.
“The governor has noted that this is the fifth time in a little over one year when our schools in Yobe State were brutally attacked and students killed. There was Government Secondary School, Damaturu; Government Secondary School Mamudo; College of Agriculture, Gujba; Federal Government College, Buni-Yadi; and now Government Comprehensive School, Potiskum.
“Governor Gaidam deeply regrets that all of these dastardly attacks took place under a climate of Emergency Rule declared in Yobe, Borno and Adamawa States by President Goodluck Jonathan.
“In theory, the Emergency Rule Declaration was a signal that more vigorous steps would be taken to protect the lives and property of people in the affected states and deploy the full might of the federal government to restore peace and security.
“Unfortunately, this has not been fully the case. Instead of forcing insurgents and criminals to flee, the insurgents are forcing innocent people to flee and making life miserable for everyone.
“Governor Gaidam believes that President Goodluck Jonathan has a very urgent responsibility to explain to the people of Yobe State and people all across the affected states why murderous and callous insurgent and criminal attacks are still on the rise despite the State of Emergency.”
The governor demanded immediate action by the federal government to stem the tide of bombings in the state.

EMERGING GAINS IN THE WAR AGAINST ISIS : Pentagon: Fate of Islamic State Leader Baghdadi Unclear ... VOA

FILE - Image taken a from video shows a man purported to be Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, senior leader of the Islamic State militant group. It's not clear whether he was hit in a recent airstrike.
The Pentagon on Monday said it could not corroborate reports coming out of Iraq that Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi had been hit in a recent airstrike by U.S.-led coalition forces, though it acknowledged  a lower-level IS person might have been a casualty.
The Pentagon on Friday had reported the coalition had targeted "battlefield leaders" in an airstrike near Mosul. An Iraq Interior Ministry intelligence official on Sunday told The Associated Press that Baghdadi had been wounded by an Iraqi airstrike early Saturday in the town of Qaim.
"Obviously, there’s a lot of conflicting reports out there on the fate of al-Baghdadi," Pentagon spokesman Colonel Steve Warren said at a Monday briefing, according to the news agency AFP. "But the bottom line from our perspective is we simply cannot confirm his current status."
Meanwhile, Iraqi state television was reporting that an aide to Baghdadi aide had been killed in a strike near the city of Fallujah, Reuters reported. The man was identified as Abu Huthaifa al-Yamani, though it was not immediately possible to confirm his role. No details were provided on where and when the strike occurred, nor have Iraqi security officials confirmed the death.
Warren said Monday it was likely that "tactical-level leadership" were hit in an airstrike Friday in Mosul."It was a 10-vehicle convoy, which we had reason to believe may have consisted of ISIL battlefield commanders or battlefield leaders," he'd said Friday, using another common acronym for the militant group.
Warren said the U.S. had not specifically targeted Baghdadi in Iraq. He repeated the mantra that the U.S. goal is to degrade and destroy the Islamic State.
Since Friday, the United States and its partners have pummeled Islamic State targets with 23 airstrikes in Syria and 18 in Iraq, the U.S. Central Command said, according to Reuters.
In Iraq, seven strikes hit near Baiji and others in or near Falluja, Mosul, al-Qaim, Haditha, Ramadi and Rutba.
The Islamic State group, which swept through northern Iraq in June virtually unopposed by the Iraqi army, has declared a caliphate in the parts of Iraq and Syria it controls.

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh said on Monday that his family remains under Boko Haram’s Islamic Caliphate, denying ever sending any helicopter to his home town in Adamawa State to evacuate members of his family hours before the fall of the town to the Boko Haram jihadists.
Vintim, the hometown of the CDS is one of the towns recently annexed by Boko Haram, as part of the ‘Islamic Caliphate’.
The terrorists are still occupying the town. Some reports had indicated that Badeh airlifted his family from the town before it finally fell to terrorists.
But in a statement posted on its blog today, the Nigerian Defence headquarters described as “reckless” assertions that Badeh sent a military helicopter to evacuate members of his family just a few hours before the fall of his home town to Boko Haram.
The full statement titled “No Helicopter Evacuated the CDS Family Members”, reads:
“The attention of the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has been drawn to an article with the caption, “The Helicopters that evacuated CDS Badeh’s family from Mubi: A lesson for All Nigerians” written by a certain Elvis Iyorngurum and posted in an on-line news outlet, NewsRescue.com on the 6th of November, 2014.
“The said article which contained strings of deliberate falsehood and spurious allegations claimed that few hours before the attack on Mubi by the terrorists, the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal AS Badeh flew in helicopters and evacuated his family from the town and abandoned everyone else to their fate.
“While the DHQ remains at a loss as to the motive for these unconscionable fabrications, it is pertinent to quickly repudiate the false claim and to state clearly that at no time did the CDS send any helicopter to evacuate any of his family members before, during or after the attack on his home town.
“Contrary to the claims by the author, the helicopter that flew to Mubi was on an operational mission to reinforce the ground troops in preparation of efforts to repel the attack.
“The helicopter did not convey any civilian or relation of the CDS as disdainfully insinuated in the article.
“Considering the fact that the falsehood packaged against Air Chief Marshal Badeh by Elvis has not only been mischievously and widely circulated, it has been further made viral on the social media, it can no longer be dismissed as one of those careless efforts in the campaign to tarnish the name and integrity of this senior officer and the Armed Forces who are doing their best to address the security situation in the country.
“The damage done by the fabrications contained in that article has not only personal, but national security implications.
“Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh as the Chief of Defence Staff has uppermost in his heart, the interest of the entire citizens of Nigeria, whom he swore to protect.
“Insinuating that the CDS is self-centred and insensitive to the plight of his people is wicked and damaging indeed.
“The DHQ wishes to reassure Nigerians that as a patriot and one on whose shoulders the leadership of Nigerian Armed Forces rests, he has honestly reaffirmed severally that he considers every Nigerian and every part of Nigeria as deserving of equal protection especially at this challenging times.
“Just like any other Nigerian, the CDS is pained at the mindless carnage and bloody violence perpetrated against innocent Nigerians by the terrorist group.
“Contrary to the falsehood bandied around by a number of professional critics and detractors, the CDS believes that every town or village under attack deserves protection whether it is his home town or not.
“This false story on Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh is one of the many fabrications being circulated as information or articles by individuals who have remained desperate in the efforts to dampen the spirit and morale of military personnel in particular and Nigerians in general as we strive to stop the activities of terrorists on rampage against our people.
“It is therefore necessary to appeal to the populace of concerned citizens to join hands with the security forces in this effort by refraining from the series of distractive criticisms and comments.
“The mass media is again requested to beware of lifting stories on the military from online media that has become the main channel of disseminating falsehood on happenings in the system.”

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha says it has been prophesied that he will be President of Nigeria, and as such, he will be his contesting 2015’s presidential election.
Okorocha made the proclamation at the All Progressives Congress rally attended by prominent members of the party in the South-East on Monday, 10 November, in Enugu.
He emphatically declared, “In 2015 I will be the president of the country”, adding that his emergence as the country’s president after the 2015 presidential polls would leave many people shocked, especially the Peoples Democratic Party.
Okorocha also stated that the APC presidential ticket was never zoned to the North, and that when the party’s presidential aspirants were being counted, his name would come first on the list.
“When they said they have zoned the presidency to the North, I asked, “When was the meeting held? Now we have zoned it to Igboland. In 2015, there will be a turnaround in the fortunes of Ndigbo.”He said, “Three months ago when I said I want to be president they asked, “Can an Igboman be president? But now when they count those contesting for president they will first count Rochas Okorocha, before Buhari, Atiku Abubakar and Kwankwaso.”
Speaking in Igbo, the governor alleged that his people (Igbos) had been neglected by President Goodluck Jonathan, and that no Igbo man is currently occupying any prominent position in the country.
He would also accuse prominent Igbo PDP politicians of not being concerned about the well being of their ‘people’. “They only know themselves; they don’t care about Igbo. APC is an emergency party for a new Nigeria; I would not have joined APC if PDP was doing well. We will defeat PDP in 2015,” he declared.
Speaking further, Okorocha boasted that he had the resources to realise his ambition of becoming president, adding that he was richer than his opponents in the PDP.

His Excellency, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR
On the Occasion of His Declaration of Intent to Run for the 2015 Presidential Elections under the Platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Eagle Square, Abuja
Tuesday 11th November, 2014
Dear Compatriots:
1. Four years ago, precisely September 18, 2010; I stood in this Eagle Square, to offer myself for election as the President of our beloved country on the platform of our great party; the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
2. Seven months after that declaration, you elected me to lead this country with overwhelming support from all parts of our Nation. I remain grateful for the trust you reposed in me to lead our Nation through uncommon challenges in our march of progress as a united and democratic country.
3. Over the years, the Almighty God has made it possible for me to develop a bond with you and I am grateful for your support and understanding in the difficult periods we have journeyed through.
4. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, our stewardship has not been without challenges. We have had to deal with the wave of insurgency that has swept through some parts of our dear country. Only yesterday, Government Science Secondary School in Yobe State was bombed by insurgents, killing our promising young children who were seeking education to build the country and support their parents. Many Nigerians have lost their lives and property to these mindless killings. Let me crave the indulgence of all present here to stand up to observe a minutes silence in honour of these young lads who lost their lives. Clearly, this has cast a dark cloud on our Nation but we will surely win the war against terror. A number of young men and women have been kidnapped by these criminal elements including our daughters from Chibok. We will free our daughters and defeat terrorism.
5. We are equipping the armed forces and deploying special forces to engage the terrorist and end this senseless war. We must protect our country. We must save our people. I will do everything humanly possible to end this criminal violence in our Nation.
6. To ensure the long term stability and development of the affected areas, government has launched three programmes: The Presidential Initiative for the North East, the Victim Support Fund and the Safe School Initiative. The Presidential Initiative for the Northeast is focused on improving infrastructure and economic growth in the region. The Safe School Initiative is centred on creating a safe environment to encourage our children in the communities to acquire education. The Victim Support Fund, a partnership with the Private Sector, has raised about 60 billion Naira, which will help to empower and rehabilitate victims of terror. I promise the victims of these dastardly acts that we will continue to stand with you.
7. I am grateful to all Nigerians for standing with me.
8. Let me also thank the leaders and elders of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, for the opportunity you have given to me to serve our country, Nigeria.
9. I am overwhelmed by the trust, confidence and support of the various organs of our party, the Board of Trustees, the National Caucus, the National Executive Committee, the National Working Committee, the PDP Governors Forum, members of the PDP Caucuses of the National Assembly, and others.
10. This day affords me the opportunity to continue the conversation of development we started together.
11. Infrastructure has been a major focus area of my administration and so, we pursued the power sector reform to this point of irreversible progress. Nigeria has undertaken a most transparent and corruption free bidding process, attracting global commendation. The on-going 450MW Azura Power Plant in Edo State is a testimony to the success of this transformation.
12. We have also resumed development of our Hydro-Power potential, with the construction of the 700MW Zungeru Hydro-Power Plant, while construction work on the 3,050MW Mambilla Hydro-Power Plant is about to take off.
13. Our power generation and distribution companies have now been privatized. We are firmly on the road to guaranteed regular power supply in the months ahead. This our bold move, is paying off!
14. We are committed to environmental protection and conservation and reducing vulnerability to climate change. In this regard, we have embarked on a number of projects across the country. Of particular note is the African Great Green Wall Programme, where we have released about 16 billion naira for implementation. The project will create a green belt across 11 states from Kebbi to Borno.
15. In the past three and half years, the water sector has witnessed unprecedented improvement. Access to potable water is now 67%, up from 58% in 2010, while sanitation coverage is 41%, from 32% within the same period.
16. Major developments in water include the completion of 37 Dams and rehabilitation of 10, with several others on-going construction. The flagship Kashimbila Multipurpose Dam which is being built to contain flood from Lake Nyos, is now at 90% completion. We have also completed about 5,000 rural and semi urban water schemes.
17. We are reforming the National Urban Water supply programmes in 12 states, with 385 formal and informal irrigation projects, covering a total land area of 118000 ha, cultivated mostly by small holder farmers. This has yielded over 3 million metric tons of assorted grains and vegetables, with a market value of about 45 billion naira.
18. Before the advent of this administration, the Railway system was practically dead. Today, we have revived the rail sector. The narrow gauge line from Lagos to Kano has been rehabilitated with improved coaches providing regular services. The rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri rail line is progressing with the Port Harcourt-Gombe segment as well as the branch line from Kafanchan to Kaduna expected to be completed and fully operational by December 2014.
19. Already, work on the Abuja-Kaduna standard gauge rail line, is progressing. The tracks of the rail line will be completed by December this year 2014. Upon completion of the project in the first quarter of 2015, it will be possible for Nigerians to live in Kaduna and work in Abuja. The Itape-Ajaokuta-Wari standard gauge line has attained an advanced stage, with the track completely laid. We hope to commence full operation before the end of 2015.
20. Other segments of the new standard gauge speed train network are planned with contract already awarded for the Lagos –Ibadan Segment. There will be more of such modern and faster rail connections in the coming years. Already, discussions are now at advanced stage, for the Coastal rail line that will traverse through 10 states, from Lagos through the South-South and South-East, all the way to Calabar.
21. My administration has successfully completed the dredging of the lower River Niger from Baro in Niger State to Warri in in Delta State. The cheering news is that over 6.7 million passengers and over 1.6 million tonnes of cargo have been moved through this channel in less than three years.
22. I am happy to also report that our ports now operate 24 hour service, which has led to the reduction of clearing time and improved efficiency.
23. When I assumed office in 2010, out of the 35,000km of federal roads nationwide, only about 5,000km were motorable. Today, that number has increased to about 25,000km. We expect to complete the remaining 10,000km in three years while initiating new ones.
24. I made a commitment to build two new major bridges across the River Niger and River Benue. Today, the new bridge over the River Benue, connecting Loko in Nassarawa State to Oweto in Benue State has reached an advance stage of completion, while work has commenced on the Second Niger Bridge.
25. Beyond these, my administration has concluded plans to re-commence the construction of Bodo-Bonny Road with three major bridges on the alignment that will link the Island of Bonny with Rivers mainland.
26. Preliminary works have started on my administration’s planned re-construction and expansion of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road in Lagos to a world class entry point into our country. Only a few months ago, work started on the dualization of Kano-Katsina Road. While many Nigerians are celebrating the marked improvements on our roads, I want to assure that it will get even better as we move forward.
27. In the pursuit of an integrated transportation system, we embarked on the construction of five new Airport Terminal Buildings and Air-field facilities. We are also re-constructing existing ones. The re-construction upon completion, will lead to improved passenger processing, increased cargo handling capacity and enhanced Air-field facilities that meet international standard and improves safety. These efforts have been met with global acknowledgement including the attainment and retention of the FAA Category One status.
28. In housing, we signed the National Housing Policy to kick-start the framework for providing more affordable homes for our people. We have also expanded the National Housing Fund to accommodate more Nigerians. We have started a revolution in the housing sector with the start of the Nigerian Mortgage and Refinanced Company (NMRC) a new initiative of my administration, that will enable more citizens in the lower income bracket to become first time home owners.
29. Our partners such as the World Bank group are supporting this with US300million dollars interest free credit, while my administration will back it with over 100billion naira in bonds. We are already processing 66,000 mortgage applications for our young people. We have amended the PENCOM Act to enable the pension funds invest in housing sector bonds. This will create a boom in the housing sector.
30. In the Federal Capital Territory, we are rapidly building a befitting National Capital by expanding and providing new infrastructure, developing ten new districts and Satellite Towns to cater for the ever increasing population. In no distant future, you will be able to arrive at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and proceed to the city using the Abuja Light Rail. In addition to providing durable health, educational and transportation services, we are also collaborating with Organized Labour to build functional, affordable and social housing in Abuja.
31. Other critical capital developments that are being packaged by this Administration include the development of the Ultra-Modern World Trade Centre, the Abuja Town Centre, the Jabi Lake Comprehensive Centre, the Centenary City and the Land Swap Districts. This private sector driven infrastructural development will positively change the skyline of the city and provide the required office and residential accommodation, shopping and recreation as well as tourism and entertainment facilities of the FCT.
32. In our determination to encourage much greater participation of Nigerians in the oil and gas industry, one of the first actions I took, was the enactment of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act. As a result of this law, indigenous Nigerian participation levels, in upstream and downstream activities of the oil and gas industry have increased by over 45%, thereby increasing employment opportunities for our youth.
33. We have also succeeded in eliminating the long queues that previously characterised our filling stations, through regular and sustained product supply.
34. Gas infrastructure to ensure adequate Gas to Power and Gas to Industry, is being aggressively put in place. Over 450km of gas pipelines have been installed over the last 3years. Another 2,000km is planned over the next 4years. Critical petrochemical and fertilizer facilities have commenced including the gas industrial park in Delta State, for which I am scheduled to perform the ground-breaking this Friday. This will create millions of jobs and make Nigeria a regional hub.
35. In addition, as a result of government favourable policies the private sector is investing over 12 billion dollars in the petrochemical sector, over the next 4years. This will surely create millions of jobs for our people.
36. In terms of gas supply, we have grown from less than 500 million cubic feet per day, 4years ago, to about 1.5 billion cubic feet per day currently. Our goal is to attain 4 billion cubic feet per day, over the next 4years.
37. We have changed the face of agriculture. We moved agriculture away from a development Programme to agriculture as a business. My vision is to create wealth for our people through agriculture.
38. We have focused on encouraging the private sector to boost investments in the agricultural sector. As a result, the number of seed companies rose from five to eighty in the past three years. Private sector investment in the agricultural sector expanded by $ US 5.6 billion across the Agricultural value chain.
39. We ended decades of corruption in the fertilizer and seed sectors. We developed a transparent and efficient system of reaching farmers directly with subsidized farm inputs. Before our reforms, fertilizer procurement and distribution took from the needy and gave to the greedy. We restored dignity back to farmers. Today, 14 million farmers, of which 2 million are women, access fertilizers with their mobile phones, through an e-wallet system. Nigeria is the first country in the world to develop an e-wallet system to reach farmers with subsidized farm inputs on their mobile phones. Several African countries are now borrowing this transparent and efficient e-wallet system for their own countries.
40. Our national food production expanded by an additional 21 million metric tons between 2011 and 2014, a record, exceeding our set target of 20 million metric tons set for 2015. The Dangote Group, has committed to invest $US 1 billion in commercial rice production and processing. With all these developments, we are expected to be an exporter of rice in the next five years. This will be a new dawn!
41. The benefits are showing on our food imports. Our food import bill has declined from 1.1 trillion Naira in 2009 to 684 billion Naira by December 2013, even with our increasing population, a reduction of 40%.
42. Nigeria met its Millennium Development Goal One on reducing hunger and extreme poverty, two years ahead of 2015 target set by the United Nations, and was given an award by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
43. To sustain this trend, we are encouraging young graduates through the Nagropreneurs Programme to go into commercial Agriculture. We are also encouraging our students in Post Primary Schools to embrace commercial Agriculture through the National School Agriculture Programme.
44. My dear people, corruption remains a big challenge in our national life. It corrodes our efforts at development and at motivating competence in critical sectors of our national growth. We have eradicated it in the agricultural sector and we will surely eradicate it in other sectors of our economy.
45. Going forward, my focus is to continue to reinforce institutions, systems, and processes to tackle corruption, and also to bring to justice those that perpetrate corruption. Through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), we have weeded out 56,000 ghost workers from the Federal Civil Service, saving 162 billion naira.
46. I have directed ICPC to bring the perpetrators of this criminal act to book. Let this be very clear, public officers must live by example, fully accounting for the national trust and resources in their care.
47. In our journey to progress, knowledge is indispensable. Knowledge is power! This is why my administration established 14 new Universities out of which 12 are conventional and two are specialized Police and Maritime Universities. Under my watch, every state in Nigeria, now has a Federal University.
48. In addition, over 500billion naira have been spent, through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the special NEEDS assessment fund on various projects to increase access and improve the quality of infrastructure at the tertiary level of our education system.
49. To provide equal access and opportunities in education and ensure that no Nigerian child is left behind, we have established and equipped 150 Almajiri Schools across the Northern states and the Out-of-School-Children Programme including Specialized Boys and Girls Schools across the country.
50. Fellow Nigerians, our country was faced with a major National security, humanitarian, and economic threat in the form of the Ebola Virus Disease, which arrived in the country on July 20, 2014, by way of a foreign national, Mr Patrick Sawyer.
51. Realizing the imminent threat, I declared a national emergency, pulling states, local and federal government into action as well as individual Nigerians to combat this disease. Without the quick action of patriotic Nigerians in the First Consultant Hospital, as well as the co-operation of Lagos and Rivers State, where the disease occurred, working with the Federal Ministry of Health and the co-operation of all Nigerians we could not have succeeded in overcoming this deadly disease. Fellow Nigerians we stopped Ebola together.
52. Just as we stopped Ebola, we are on our way to eradicating the Polio Virus in our country. We have reduced the incident of new Polio Virus from 300 in 2010, to 6 today.
53. My brothers and sisters, to encourage entrepreneurship and self-reliance among our teeming graduates, we have developed creative opportunities for enterprise for our young people.
54. Programmes such as YouWIN, the Graduate Internship Scheme, the Nagropreneurs Initiative, the 220 Billion Naira Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Fund and the 3 Billion Naira Grant to Nollywood are empowering our graduates, the creative industry and other young people to start up their own businesses and employ others.
55. We have supported the growth of industry through policy and action. We launched The National industrial Revolution Plan (NIRP), and the National Enterprise Development Programme as key drivers to bring about our desires in the industrial sectors and to diversify our economy. Our new National Automobile Policy is transforming Nigeria into a vibrant hub for the automobile industry. Our own Innoson Motors is producing world standard vehicles, and Nissan, Hyundai, and Kia, have set up factories in Nigeria and are employing thousands of our people.
56. Our support for cement production is unprecedented. We have increased our installed capacity from 16.5 million metric tons per annum in 2011 to 39.5 million metric tons per annum in 2014. Nigeria is now exporting cement. We are moving forward! We must produce what we consume and consume what we produce.
57. Our efforts to create an enabling environment for job creation in different sectors of the economy including the MSME sector, agriculture, housing and manufacturing have yielded results. Between the third quarter of 2012, when we started tracking jobs created and the end of 2013, 1.9 million jobs were created. To deepen our success in this area, I have created a Presidential Jobs Creation Board headed by the Vice President with the mandate to create at least two million jobs a year.
58. My brothers and sisters, our economy is heading in the right direction and our efforts are yielding positive results. Our economy continues to grow at the rate of 6 to 7 percent annually, one of the highest in the world. Our country is now the top investment destination and the largest economy in Africa, with a GDP of 80trillion naira (510billion dollars) as well as the 26th largest economy in the world.
59. As part of its efforts to support inclusive growth and economic development in Nigeria through the CBN, my administration has created and disbursed the sum of 200billion naira via the Commercial Agric and Credit scheme, 300billion naira Power and Aviation fund, 220billion naira Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Fund, as well as 300 billion naira rail sector refinancing facilities at single digit interest rate. We will continue to deepen the reforms in the financial sector, in order to sustain the growth of our economy and uplift our people from poverty to prosperity.
60. Dear Compatriots, I promised as President, that we would sanitize and restore integrity in our electoral process, by ensuring that our votes are not only counted, but truly count. We have gone to great length to ensure transparent, free, fair, and credible elections. Elections have been conducted across the country with local and international election observers testifying to their transparency.
61. On the international scene, we have advanced our regional, continental and global objectives. We have strengthened our relationships with our neighbours and in many instances supported them to protect their democracy, security and stability. We are serving for a second time within a period of 4 years at the United Nations Security Council. This is unprecedented in our Nation’s history. My brothers and sister, this is a growing attestation of our country’s growing influence.
62. In the first quarter of this year, our country celebrated its centenary. To prepare the nation for the challenges of the next one hundred years, I convened a National Conference where recommendations and resolutions were reached towards a more perfect union. We shall implement the report.
63. Four years ago, I made a commitment to advance the rise and rise of womanhood. Today, I am glad that we have made remarkable progress in this regard, trusting in the potential of our women and reaping from their dedication and ingenuity. I believe that any nation that ignores womanhood cannot achieve its full potential. It is in this regard that I ensured that women were given more opportunities in government, and I have not been disappointed.
64. Specifically, I doubled the percentage of women in the cabinet and gave them more challenging assignments.
65. The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), is now admitting female cadets as regular combatants and it is now possible for a woman to rise through the ranks to the peak in military service, and become a full general.
66. We must continue to sustain the banner of freedom and justice that we have held high in our country. I am proud to say that there are no political prisoners in Nigeria today. No Nigerian has been driven to exile and no one will be, under my watch.
67. It is in furtherance of a peaceful, participatory and inclusive democracy that I signed the Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill into law, to expand the frontiers of our fundamental freedom.
68. Let me re-affirm that under a Jonathan Presidency, your views, no matter how freely expressed, will not send you to prison or into exile.
69. I am convinced that I have kept my pact with Nigerians, and it is now time to look to the future. With your tremendous support, we have collectively done so much in the last three and half years, but to take our country to the next level, there is still more to be done.
70. History has shown that the path of honour for any true leader is not to walk away from his people in moments of challenges. We must stand together in adversity and overcome all threats to our development. We must defend our future, for the sake of our children.
71. So many things have inspired me in the journey to this moment. I want to appreciate ordinary Nigerians, especially young people, for the solidarity shown to me by contributing their meagre resources to enable me arrive at this point.
72. I appreciate the kind gesture of the Cattle Breeders Union, Miyetti Allah, and the Market Women Association, who encouraged me by coming together to contribute to the purchase of my Nomination form.
73. In the same vein, I am touched by the National Association of Widows who also encouraged me with their widow’s mite.
74. This labour of love, from ordinary Nigerians, has increased my appreciation of your solidarity, my trust in our joint destiny, and all we have achieved together these past three and half years.
75. Therefore, after seeking the face of God, in quiet reflection with my family and having listened to the call of our people nationwide to run, I, Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, have accepted to re-present myself, on the platform of The Peoples’ Democratic Party, for re-election as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in the 2015 general elections.
76. Democracy is a collective action, energized by individual responsibility. Your mandate at this time will inspire in me the strength to complete the good work we have started together.
77. My dear people of Nigeria, we must complete the task of ensuring that we lift the poor out of the depth of want, and place their feet firmly on the ladder of prosperity.
78. In this election season, I appeal to all of you, not to harm, maim or kill; and not to incite violence of any kind. We must never forget our common bond, one people from the womb of one Nigeria. Again I say: My ambition to serve you is not worth the blood of any Nigerian. I remain committed to this principle of non-violence.
79. If you believe that we must build a country that works for all, where the strong lift up the weak, and not trample upon them, where the vote of every citizen determines who governs or represents you, where the democratic space is open to all citizens to fulfil their aspirations, irrespective of the circumstance of birth, your brother, Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan stands ready to continue in service to you.
80. My brothers and sisters, we cannot go back to the old ways! Our railways were allowed to rot in neglect, we have revived and are modernising them.
81. We cannot go back to the old ways! Our road infrastructure collapsed. We are reconstructing, and expanding federal roads across the country.
82. We cannot go back to the old ways! Our airport terminal buildings were dilapidated and our airspace unsafe. We are fixing this.
83. We cannot go back to the old ways! Our agricultural practices did not benefit our farmers and our people. Fertilizer distribution was a major source of fraud and we were importing food more than our budget can carry. Now we are on our way to self-sufficiency in food production.
84. Do you want to go back to the old ways?
85. We cannot go back to the old ways, where there were long queues at our filling stations due to irregular supply of products and our people were exploited.
86. We cannot go back to the old ways, when women and youths were denied opportunities in government and in responsible positions.
87. Do you want to go back to the old ways?
88. We cannot go back to the old ways! We had skewed distribution of tertiary institutions. Whereas some states had more than one degree awarding institution, some had none. We have now made sure all states have at least one Federal University.
89. We cannot go back to the old ways! Our economy is now the largest in Africa. Once, we were virtually importing everything, now we are exporting several products, including cement.
90. We cannot go back to the old ways! In 2009, average life expectancy was 47 years, by the end of 2013, it was 52 years. Some of our hospitals now perform open heart surgeries, kidney transplants and other challenging operations as we reposition our health service to end decades of medical tourism that drains our scarce resources.
91. We cannot go back to the old ways! Together, in unity, we overcame Ebola, and in the process demonstrated the strength of the Nigerian spirit. And together, united, we must maintain our vigilance.
92. Do you want to go back to the old ways?
93. We cannot go back to the old ways where individual freedoms were trampled upon and citizens were locked up for expressing their views or criticising government.
94. Do you want to go back to the old ways?
95. We cannot go back to the old ways! We must continue to have free and fair elections. We cannot go back to the era where ballot box snatching and stuffing became the norm. Where your votes never counted.
96. Certainly, we cannot!
97. We have to move forward! Only forward!!, my dear people, Forward!!!
98. In moving forward, I see a Nigeria that thirsts for progress with children across the nation, eager for knowledge and safely in schools!
99. I see a Nigeria where all who have taken up arms, would again embrace peace!
100. I see a Nigeria where our women can aspire to any heights, without hindrance!
101. I see a Nigeria where the flames in the Eagles will rekindle, and the Falcons soaring higher in victory!
102. I see a Nigeria where the children of Mustapha, and Christopher, Ade and Ada, Timi and Bunmi, Nnamdi and Namadi, do not go hungry!
103. I see a Nigeria where all, no matter their beliefs, live in peace and harmony!
104. I see a Nigeria where the green passport is accorded a royal reception the world over!
105. I see a Nigeria where one day the next generation will take us to outer space.
106. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, leadership is about staying focused to achieve goals despite challenges. I have been faced with many challenges since coming to office as President. With your support and encouragement, we have stayed the course.
107. We are succeeding, against all odds. For the young Nigerian child, who grew up in the rural area, just like me, we are expanding opportunities and giving them hope. For the market woman, we are expanding opportunities. For our young entrepreneurs, we are expanding opportunities. The United States has faulted the claim by the Nigerian government that it is standing in the way of the Nigerian military’s quest to procure weapons to strengthen its war against the extremist Boko Haram sect.
Answering questions during a press briefing, the U.S. Department of State spokesperson, Jen Paski, said Wednesday the American government has been supporting the Nigerian military in the area of intelligence sharing, training of soldiers and other measures in combating the insurgency.
On Monday, the Nigerian Ambassador to the U.S., Ade Adefuye, had accused the U.S. of letting Nigeria down in its hour of need by refusing to help the country procure weapon to combat Boko Haram.
“We find it difficult to understand how and why in spite of the U.S. presence in Nigeria with their sophisticated military technology, Boko Haram should be expanding and becoming more deadly,” he said.
He said the U.S. was standing in the way of the Nigerian military procuring lethal equipment that would have helped the country end the deadly insurgency mounted against Nigeria by Boko Haram.
Dismissing the claims that the Nigerian military were involved in human rights violations, Mr. Adefuye also flayed the U.S. government for the manner it’s sharing intelligence with the Nigerian military, arguing that despite the claim by the Americans that things have improved in that aspect, “it is still there”.
However, during Wednesday’s briefing in Washington, the Department of State spokesperson said the U.S. has actually increased its support for the Nigerian military, especially in the last six months.
She said her government has improved intelligence sharing with the Nigerian military and has actually approved and sold some military equipment to the Nigerian military.
“Let me just lay out the facts of our assistance. Over the past six months, the United States has started sharing intelligence with Nigeria, began training a new army battalion and held numerous high-level discussions with Nigerian authorities on additional measures to best address the Boko Haram threat.
“We have also provided and approved sales of military equipment to its armed forces. These decisions are made, of course, after careful scrutiny to ensure they conform with United States law,” she said in response to a question about Ambassador Adefuye’s claims.
She explained that the U.S. refused to sell some Cobra attack helicopters to the Nigerian armed forces early this year because it was concerned the military had no capacity to operate and maintain it.
Ms Paski said there were also concerns over the protection of civilians during military operations.
“We shared those concerns with Nigeria before this decision and subsequent to it,” she said.
She said that the Nigerian military has however purchased helicopters from other sources and that the U.S. government did not prevent such purchases.
“Nigeria has purchased helicopters that originated in countries other than the United States, and nothing in our decision prevents Nigeria from obtaining weapons and equipment from other sources.
“We’ll continue to look for ways to deepen our cooperation with Nigeria to help it acquire the systems and skills needed to restore peace and security. But obviously, we’ve provided a great deal of assistance over the past several months.”
Ms Paski said the U.S. would continue to urge the Nigerian military to investigate allegation of abuses by soldiers and to do more in the area of training the country’s security forces to improve its effectiveness.
“We wouldn’t be raising that concern if we didn’t feel and others didn’t feel that they were warranted,” she said.

Local militia in Adamawa State have driven Boko Haram militants out of Mubi, a key town in the northeast state, nearly two weeks after the town fell to the insurgents, the state governor and residents said Thursday.
A spokesperson to Governor Bala Ngilari told PREMIUM TIMES Thursday that Mubi is now “quite different from what it used to be”.
He said local vigilante, popularly called Civilian JTF, launched a daring night time attack on Boko Haram insurgents in Mubi and drove them out of town between Wednesday and Thursday.
The government said the operation received some support from the military.
The Defence Headquarters could not confirm the operation. Spokesperson, Chris Olukolade, could not be reached.
A military official, however, told PREMIUM TIMES the operation was not as “conclusive as claimed”.
But the Adamawa State government said the operation was successful and that Mubi is now free of Boko Haram.
“His Excellency, Governor Bala Ngilari, has confirmed that the combined efforts of the Civilian Vigilante and the Sarkin Bakan Gombi as well as the military has successfully chased away Boko Haram from Mubi town,” Phineas Elisha, the director, press, to Governor Ngilari, told PREMIUM TIMES.
He said: “Some of them(Boko Haram) ran away through Askira Uba and others through Mubi South and the situation in Mubi now is quite different from what it used to be.”
A journalist based in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, said Mr. Ngilari first made the disclosure while inspecting relief materials provided by the government for people displaced by Boko Haram in the captured towns.
A resident of Mubi, who is now in Yola, Abdulrazak Aide, had earlier informed PREMIUM TIMES that a vigilante group popularly known as “Yan Tauri” carried out an overnight raid on Mubi, killing many insurgents.
“Yan Tauri, under the tutelage of Sarkin Bakan Gombi, carried out a raid and killed many Boko Haram members,” he said.
Boko Haram captured Mubi October 30 in a daytime raid after attacking the military installation there, chasing soldiers and residents out of town, and killing many.
The group has made lightening wins in recent months, taking and holding towns in Adamawa and neighbouring Borno State, the hotbed of its five-year-old campaign.

Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Steven Lawani was also involved in the accident and also escaped unscathed.
The accident occurred at about 11 am at Angbaaye village, a border community between Makurdi and Guma local government areas of the state. Angbaaye is located on the busy Makurdi-Gboko road.
The governor was heading to Mbatierev in Gboko local government to commission a road project while his deputy was on the trip to commission a tree planting project at Wannune in Tarka local government. They were all on the same convoy.

It was gathered that the driver of vehicle was on high speed when the accident occurred.
The driver of the commercial vehicle, LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered, lost control and rammed into another vehicle that was parked off the shoulder of the road to pave way for the convoy before it collided with the governors official car.
Security aides and journalists attached to the governor who narrowly escaped death narrated that the security backup jeep of the governor somersaulted three times and landed into the bush.
The governor who assessed the level of damage and the severe injuries sustained by the victims immediately ordered that they should be evacuated to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi for urgent medical treatment.

man Bolaji F. Richard has claimed that the deceased prominent preacher, Myles Munroe is in heaven.
Dr. Munroe was killed on Sunday in a small plane crash along with wife, Ruth Ann in the Grand Bahama, Bahamas.Mr Richard said he had a vision from God, who showed him the aftermath of the crash which killed everyone on board.Narrating his vision titled  ‘Brother Myles Munroe is with the Master’ via Facebook, Mr. Bolaji claimed he saw angels taking up the deceased preacher to heaven.pastor myles munroe
Read his vision below:
When the news of his demise was broken to me early yesterday morning by a friend I was sad for a greater part of the day and few minutes to nine o’clock last night in republic of lome Togo ,while in the midst of a service in which bishop ISAAC NWAOJI was ministering with a very heavy anointing the lord took me by his spirit and began to show me what transpired few seconds before disaster and what took place afterward .I was still conscious of the environment I was physically , I was not completely taken out of into a trance , but I could clearly see from a AFRICA an event that took place several hundreds of thousands of kilometers away a day before !
Beloved this is The vision of brother Myles Munroes I saw the mood he was few seconds before crash and after the impacts.Shortly before the crash few seconds to disaster ,He was sitting in the plane chatting and laughing with his wife and daughter , all belt up and he was looking out on the window side at the landscape that has appeared close to landing , he took one final glance very quickly over his notepad about what he was going to say where he was heading to .
The spirit of God made me see a notepad like a tablet This note I saw containing some instruction and admonition arraigned in power point format meant to challenge boldly people what will they be remembered for After they had gone out of this world ?what he was going to say among other things to the scheduled audience was to challenge them about how to leave good legacy on earth behind them when they die! I saw a part of his preaching note! When the crash occurred ,less than a split or fraction of a second ,in the midst of the wrecked plane, he took off mortality for immortality he was changed almost instantly !
the way he took of mortality was like someone who returned from an outing and remove his shirt ! . that was the way the earthly body was done away with an incredible ease ! So easy !
What he took off was like a roughened body mask from head to toe and this revealed a shining radiating spotless being with not one single crash impact !the light radiating on it was glowing like a million fluorescent ! on this spirit man was a robe it was as if he already wore it underneath his dress !
Angels bore him up and he shot into the sky with an incredible speed with children and wife like a rocket shooting into the cloud going upward with a lighting speed from earth to the heavens , it was a lighting quick speed !
He went up into the cloud and disappeared beyond the cloud full of smiles and glowing radiance on his face ! With trails of angels !Ushering him into presence of JESUS !
As He came from the earth into the presence of JESUS his spirit man bowed immediately before jesus and the word dr Myles munroes uttered was “master”I saw jesus stretched out his hands and him touch him on his shoulder in a bowed down position
While dr mule was there in a humble reverence, thousands of Angels are still at the crash site ! I could not count the Angels I saw ! They were more than the rubbles, they were more than the people there ! Why they stayed back around the crash site I do not know !,they didn’t follow the Angels that took him up !The Heavenly reception he was given cannot be compared to the one waiting for him where he was heading on earth before the crash !
it cannot be compared to what the president of the earth ever gave him in any nation or any one at any airport on arrival ! The best honour he had on earth looked like trash or even a parade disgrace compared to this golden and incredible reception!
I saw Angels singing at his arrival like a recessional song it was as if they knew he was coming and had been rehearsing the songs since !
You may doubt me but Nobody was there when God created the heavens and the earth , but God took MOSES to genesis at creation to capture creation and all that transpired Oh I mine! Oh mine! Oh mine! This I cannot described! This I cannot described! I have no words ! What a reception! What a glory! What an honour !
I saw in between the crash site and the heaven was like something like a ladder ,some sort of connecting link or map link between the earth and heaven together!
On this note I am no longer sad !
Let us bury the rough mask he shed . Let us go and bury his earthly suit ! The real Myles munroe is before his master in an humble adoration!
This thing is real ! Real HONOUR await true servant of God in heaven!
